A dental implant is an artificial replacement of a tooth root. At the location where a tooth is to be drawn, it is usually possible to replace an implant sites. This is usually a screw-shaped titanium structure, whether or not coated with a special coating. Each brand has its specific form of graft implantation.
However, the greatest improvement in the implant was not so much the form of the implant, but the coating of the part that comes into contact with the bone. The big problem is the growth and ingrowth of bone at the implant.
Nowadays, there is also a distinction is made between so-called one-and two–stage implants.
The difference is in the treatment phases:
- With a single-stage implant, the implant is placed in a treatment and this consists of a part that is anchored in the bone and is a part that projects above the gum line. These two parts form a whole, and after a certain period of time is on the top part a crown made.
- Whith the two-phase implant, the implant part is in the first phase, placed in the bone, and then covered again with gums. A few months later, when the implant is in the bone ingrowth, following the second phase which is called a (healing) abutment placed on the ingrown implant. After several weeks the crown wil be made.on the abutment.
